Stockholm, March 12 (Hibya) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized in his statement to Swedish state television SVT that he expects American support to Ukraine to continue even after the American presidential elections on November 5.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban claimed that the USA would not continue to support Ukraine if Trump won the election.
“If we stop supporting Ukraine and Ukraine can no longer defend itself, that would be a tragedy for Ukrainians but also dangerous for our security interests,” Stoltenberg said. “I assume that the United States will continue to be a strong NATO ally and will continue to support Ukraine,” he said.
Secretary General Stoltenberg believes that cooperation in NATO has been very beneficial to the United States over the years, and therefore if NATO's expectations of supporting Ukraine are deviated from, it could harm the country.
Jens Stoltenberg said, “The United States knows that it has something in NATO that Russia and China do not: more than 30 friends who promise to protect each other.” It is in their security policy interest to have a strong NATO.
Supporting Ukraine is an investment in our own security. Stoltenberg continues: “I assume that no matter who wins, the United States will accept this even after the election.”
